- Can we land in remote locations?
Stewart Island Helicopters is proud to hold landing concessions for Conservation Areas in Stewart Island, meaning we have multiple landing locations to enjoy during your flight. However, please note that many of our landing locations are coastal, which means we can be restricted at times by tides.
- Where do our flights depart from?
Stewart Island Helicopters is based in Bluff. Our scenic flights start and finish at our base here, though we can also arrange pick-ups from Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown Airports. We can also organise to start flights from Oban, or charter flights from Fiordland. Get in touch to organise the best itinerary for you.
- What is your most popular flight?
The Half-Island Scenic Flight is the go-to for many of our passengers.
- Do you require minimum numbers?
All scenic flights require a minimum of four passengers to go ahead. If you are flying solo, let us know and we’ll do our best to organise another passenger or group for your flight. Get in touch for other solo options.
- How do I get from your hangar on Stewart Island into Oban township?
We will arrange to meet you at the helicopter, pick up your luggage, and transport you to central Oban.
- Where can I park my car?
We have parking spaces available at our base in Bluff.
- How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking early for the best experience. Please note Stewart Island has limited accommodation and food so it is best to be prepared and book well in advance.
- What if the weather is not good on the day of my flight?
Our flights are all weather-dependent, meaning your pilot will check the forecast ahead of your flight and consider the full duration of your trip. If we feel like the weather may change, we will not leave Bluff. Pilots will make a weather check one hour before each scheduled departure. If we cannot fly due to adverse weather conditions, we will attempt to reschedule depending on availability. See our fine print for our cancellation and refund policy.
